Director's Biography

Kianoush Ayari

Born in Ahwaz in 1951. Began his film career in 1970 when he joined the Free Cinema Group in his hometown. He began to make 8mm films including Rain of Dust and Beyond the Fire which he later re-made as full length feature film. His debute feature film, The Thirst of Demon, Was awarded the Golden Plaque of Best Direction plus several other prizes at the forth Fajr Film Festival. In subsequent years Ayyari created works of exceptional artistic merit including Beyond of The Fire which won the Golden Plaque of best direction at the fifth Fajr Film Festival. The film was also awarded top prize of the golden FIPA at the third festival of television productions ( FIPA ). His film To Be or Not To Be won the best screenplay prize at 1998 Cairo Int'l Film Festival. Ayyari was also jury member for the competition of first and second films of directors at the Ninth Fajr Film Festival.
